24
I do lean towards Jack/Chloe in this fandom, but I tend to prefer it in light doses and without the
Audrey, Spenser and/or Morris bashing that seems prevalent among Jack/Chloe fans. (I actually quite liked
Audrey until she killed, albeit indirectly, Edgar's mom.)
All Along
R | Jack/Chloe
Summary: none given
I love this look at the genesis of the relationship from Jack's POV. It's rather short, but
makes you believe that the two would work.
All My Sins Remembered
PG | Charles/Martha
Summary: Post Day 6. Charles Logan recovers from his injuries and visits Martha.
I never thought Logan was a mustache-twirling villian. Rather, he was a man in over his head
trying (but utterly failing) to do the right thing. This fic is a fantastic look at that man while he
seeks redemption and his unwavering love for the woman who now despies him.
Arrested Again
PG | Jack/Chloe
Summary: Chloe & Jack get arrested while undercover.
A rather cute fluff (but not sap) fic. Sometimes I think Chloe is written slightly out of
character, but this line from the cop makes up for it: "[L]ady, you've been infringing on my civil
liberties for the last ten minutes, now shut the hell up before I charge you with wasting my time on top
of everything else."
Begin to Hope
PG | Chloe, Morris
Summary: none given
Because I'm a Jack/Chloe fan, I've come across many a fic in which poor Morris is villified for
giving into the terrorists demands (or just to clear the path for Jack/Chloe); so this is a breath of
fresh air. It keeps both of them in character and doesn't bash the poor guy as the two deal with Morris'
actions on day 6.
Brunette
PG-13 | Jack, Chloe
Summary: Chloe's a brunette and Jack's about to be handed over to the terrorists.
An AU-ish fic in which Chloe gets to see Jack before he's sacrificed. This Jack is the broken
version we saw and Chloe is the Chloe that could've been.
Day 5, Hour 16 10 PM to 11PM
PG-13 | Chloe, Bill, Jack
Summary: [A 'What Should Have Happened' type fic for the episode]
It's like the author read my mind and wrote this fic. While I adore Jack/Chloe, Bill's
revelation and Chloe's reaction to it nails how I view the 'ship right on the head.
Four Things That Never Happened Between Jack Bauer and Chloe O'Brian and One Thing That, Well, You Never Know
PG-13 | Jack, Chloe
Summary: The title says it all.
A fantastic look at how Jack and Chloe could have been. Stories 1 and 4 are my favorites and
events that I would pay to see played out on screen! Story 2 is hilarious, though would likely give me
nightmares if filmed.
Full Tilt
R | Chloe, Jack
Summary: About last night...
Although it's a cliche-fic challenge entry, (the cliche being: Jack and Chloe wake up in the
same bed with no memories of the previous night), it manages to avoid the cliched 'shippy result and
instead gives you a great friendship piece with a fantastically funny ending.
Giggling
R | Jack/Chloe, Edgar
Summary: Jack is jealous.
No matter how much I try to avoid it, there's always one fluff piece out there that I always
go back to despite the fact that I can never really see it happening. This is my Jack/Chloe crack.
Great Expectations
PG | Charles Logan
Summary: Charles Logan's entire life had been a sham. A sham designed to meet great expectations.
I love this exploration of how and why Logan chose the path that he did. The only part I diagree
with is his marriage to Martha being a sham, because I believe he does love her.
Hallelujah
PG | Jack, Tony, Michelle, Palmer, Kim, Chase, Audrey, Chloe, Edgar
Summary: The hour, day, week, month, year post Jack's death.
A fantastic look at how Jack's death at the end of season four affects everyone. Strangely enough
I actually like how Audrey is written better than Chloe in this fic.
Hero
PG-13 | Chloe, Jack
Summary: Chloe goes to visit Jack after the events of day 3. She is shocked at what she sees.
Generally I don't like Chloe-comforts-Jack fics since they often leave me wondering why Chloe
doesn't take out a restraining order on the guy. This one ventures into familiar territory but instead of
leaving me cringing, it leaves me with a smile.
I Shouldn't Be Crying
PG-13 | Chloe, Jack
Summary: Post-hour 12 of Day 5.
While most Jack/Chloe fics dealing with the great CTU bloodbath of '06 get a little too 'shippy
for my tastes, this 'what-should-have-happened' look leans more towards the friendship side and captures
what I think would be going through Chloe's head. (For the record, I liked Barry helping Chloe.)
Love is Watching Someone Die
R | Chloe, Jack
Summary: none given
The title gives you an idea of what to expect but the ending still manages to be heartbreaking.
Everyone has their idea of how 24 should end, and if has to end in death, this is what I'd want to see.
Non-Fatal Wounds
R | Saunders
Summary: A brief look into Stephen Saunders imprisonment with the Serbs after Operation Nightfall.
The summary says it all. The last line is chilling and is a great lead into the Saunders we see
in Day 3.
Of Beds and Magnets
G | Jack/Chloe
Summary: The old cliche, 'Opposites attract' had nothing on them': Jack muses on his current
relationship.
A rather fluffy look at a day in Jack and Chloe's life in which neither of them is in danger,
angsting out or being harrased by evil exes. It somehow is something you know would never happen, but
still keeps the two totally in character.
Of Tattoos and Hand Drawn Hearts
PG | Jack/Chloe
Summary: She hates being in the field. It leaves her edgy and twitchy like she's on some kind of
drug, and with an adrenaline rush that can last up to hours mixed with her personality, it's a freaking
nightmare
While this has all the classic fic cliches (trapped in an elevator and declarations of love --
it was a cliche-fic challenge entry after all), the author's style, tone and the way she writes Chloe
makes you forget all about the cliches and instead your focus is on a great story.
Once Upon a Time in Mexico
PG | Jack/Alex, Olivia, Chloe | Crossover with Law & Order: SVU
Summary: If they were both alive, maybe it would work.
A lovely look at two people who no longer exist finding each other, but never quite knowing
each other.
Sanctuary
G | Jack, Chloe
Summary: JackChloe friendship and insomnia.
This fic has always struck me as slightly out of character, but never enough to pull me out it
and I keep on coming back to it because it's just a great Jack/Chloe friendship fic.
Six Fifty-Eight AM
PG | Jack, Chappelle
Summary: A series of three vignettes about the events taking place at 6:58 am on Day Three.
If you haven't seen Day Three, stop and watch before reading. If you have seen it, relive, what
I think is, the most tragic moment of 24.
Smile
PG-13 | Jack
Summary: What Jack is thinking as he waits attached to the sewer grate.
While this can be read as 'shippy, I like to think of it as more a friendship piece. This is
something I could see happening given Jack's state of mind at that moment.
Sometimes I Wonder Why I Bother
PG | Chloe
Summary: Chloe works hard, but sometimes she needs to vent.
A hilariously cranky Day 3 Chloe.
Stand In
PG | Jack/Chloe, Chase/Chloe
Summary: Jack's away and Chloe needs someone.
I came across this one while watching day three for the first time and while I can't see this
situation happening in canon, it's absolutely heartwrenching and is one of my favorites simply because
of the angst.
Steel Plated Cocoon
PG | Chloe, Chase
Summary: She wasn't even pretty.
Why is there not more Chloe and Chase friendship fics? This one features a rarely seen bitter
and angry Chloe that eschews the cutesy nicknames and general out of character-ness that I usually see in
fics that explore their friendship.
Stubborn
PG-13 | Jack/Chloe
Summary: What does a guy need to do to get his woman to marry him?
A really cute Jack/Chloe fic that always makes me smile when I read it. Strangely, while I
honestly think the situation is out of character for them, as written they seem perfectly in character.
The Postcard
PG | Audrey
Summary: A few weeks after the events of s4, Audrey is at home and thinking about a few things.
I don't hate Audrey, I'm just not a big fan of her's (or of Jack/Audrey) and therefore I don't
activately seek out stuff that features her. However, I stumbled across this quasi-AU fic and I'm glad
I have it a chance. It's a wonderfully written look at Audrey after the deaths of Paul and Jack.
There is No Mathematics to Love and Loss
PG-13 | Jack, Chloe
Summary: She felt his strength behind her, and it made her stand taller
A fantastic friendship fic. I love this author's work because she can take elements of Jack/Chloe
fics that I normally hate and make it work. Fic consists of six mini fics (each a song prompt as part of a
challenge) which give you six different looks into their relationship.
They Say You're Pretty, But You Don't Think They're Right
PG-13 | Jack/Chloe
Summary: There is something unmistakably off beat when she arrives.
While whether I can see this happening or not depends on my mood, I still think it's a great
look at the toll that Jack's secret takes on Chloe and what she does when it's finally too much.
Thinking
PG-13 | Jack, Kim, Audrey, Chloe
Summary: The night after season five, the characters think about each other.
An interesting trip through Jack's mind and of the women in his life. My only quibble is that
there seems to be some slight Audrey-bashing, but overall it doesn't treat her too horribly.
Through Time and Glass
PG | Jack, Chloe | Crossover
Summary: There will always be something between them. For now it's a pane of glass and a thousand
years.
Crossover (I'm specifically not mentioning with what, because if you're a fan like I am, it's a
wonderful surprise) that I didn't see coming, partly because I somehow managed to skip the "brief
crossover" mention in the headers, but mainly beause it's a wonderful fic that takes you into Jack's mind
as he watches Chloe.
Trembling
PG | Jack, Chloe
Summary: Chloe has the freak out she was hoping for. Takes place Day 4 between 3 and 4 am.
I can totally see this as a missing scene. Labeled as romance, but can also be read as
Jack/Chloe friendship, whichever way floats your boat.
'Twas the Night Before Christmas
PG-13 | Jack/Chloe
Summary: He couldn't say what it was about her that had drawn his attention above the rest of the
crowd. (AU future fic).
I just really like how this could easily swerve into Jack/Chloe sap, but manages to stay on the
angsty path that leaves you wanting more.
Untitled
PG | Jack, Chloe
Summary: none given
It's amazing what some authors can do with just one sentence. A series of one sentence blurbs
that encompass everything from humor to angst relating to Jack and Chloe. #50 sums everything up about
the two in just 25 words.
Walk Away
PG | Chloe, Tony, Michelle, Kim, Chase, Jack
Summary: Nine months after Jack's death, Chloe is still dealing with the emotional fallout and
conflict caused by his absence.
A wonderfully written look at how Jack's death has saddled Chloe with a responsibilty that
the she doesn't want, but can't hand off to anyone else. It would fit seamlessly inbetween Days 4 and
5.
Women's Shoes
PG | Chloe/Morris
Summary: What kind of man sells women's shoes in Beverly Hills?
Reads like an extended scene from the Day five finale. I love how this look at Morris from
Chloe POV stays true to Chloe's character and sheds light on why she would've married Morris in the first
place.
